The France international scored two goals against a plucky West Brom side in his first start alongside Alexis in the league.

Alexandre Lacazette arrived at Arsenal for a club record fee and he is beginning to show glimpse of the quality which persuaded Arsene Wenger to sign him.

The French striker has now scored in his first three Premier League home games for the club, a record exemplifying his predatory instincts in the final third and showing why the Gunners have needed a striker of Lacazette’s calibre for several seasons.

Alexis Sanchez ended last season with 24 goals and 11 assists, but even that impressive tally could have been higher if he had Lacazette playing alongside him. In the first game the duo have started together they showed mutual understanding and excellent individual moments that contributed to Arsenal’s victory.

Sanchez is forever capable of the spectacular and his free-kick which led to Lacazette’s header shows what the two can do when they’re both on the pitch. Alongside Mesut Ozil the potential triumvirate in store for Arsenal fans will whet the appetites – even if two of them have contracts expiring next summer.

It could have been different if West Brom were awarded what looked like a clear first half penalty when Shkodran Mustafi clipped Jay Rodriguez in the box, but Lacazette’s superb finishing and subsequent calmness from the spot in the second half gives Wenger’s side increased confidence going into the coming games.

Arsenal’s next four league games are against Brighton, Watford, Everton and Swansea, and Wenger will take great comfort in the fact that he is able to call upon the likes of Olivier Giroud from the substitutes bench to help support Lacazette - not that it looks like he needs it at present!
